I lived and worked in Edmonton for eight and a half years and Metro Cinema was a god-send. The theatre's actually not much to look at, but then most of my favourite memories of it are with the lights out. The programming is consistently interesting at Metro, never quite what you're expecting. Suddenly you're watching four Hungarian period films in a row. All right! And when you live in a city as relatively isolated as Edmonton you become very affectionate toward those who bring you so many jewels of cinematic beauty. Plus there's lots of plants in the building, which is nice when its like -45 outside.
