How does a divorcing couple split everything when there is nothing left?
In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, director Doug Lenox decides that it is never too early to infuse humor into a rotten situation. With The Beat Circus' Dixieland jazz keeping the mood buoyant, Quincy and Althea drolly bicker from across their home's broken front stoop and around their broken city.
Passing the destruction as they squabble, the two exchange barbs littered with jokes about the Superdome, FEMA and flood waters. It never feels inappropriate, as they are nipping at each other and not other victims. The unforgiving realism never needs to be stated, as images of New Orleans speak a thousand words.
Lenox allows his characters to be natural and honest, though it seems as if misplaced frustrations may be disguising true affections.
