"The PhoneKeeper"

The PhoneKeeper
USA
3 OUT OF 4 STARS

Ever paranoid that the wrong person will hear your phone conversation? What if that wrong person lives in your answering machine?

In director Stine Michelsen's quirky tale of a dedicated operator, our hero is truly the ghost in the machine. The bow-tied phone slave makes a seemingly automatic task exceedingly complex. For every button pushed by the owner, the hero jumps into action to push five more.

He is guided by a list of rules posted on the wall, including "Don't get involved." This all changes when sugar-voiced Sophia calls. Her flirtations cause the drone to become protective and sabotage his devious owner's date.

Michelsen's sets are simple and miming is more important than dialogue, but a little odd humor goes a long way.
