"My Last Ten Hours with You"

Australia
3.5 OUT OF 4 STARS

Relationships are never easy to end, especially when there is a countdown to departure.

Director Sophie Hyde captures the final hours of Jeremy and Mark's love affair before the former leaves Australia for Hanoi. Although Jeremy seems prepared for departure with his thoughts in another land, Mark sweetly attempts to sabotage plans and desperately tries to remind Jeremy why he should not leave.

The pilgrimage is never explained, nor how long the two have been together or whether Mark knew about this inevitable ending. What remains is the final fragility of two beings desiring different futures, and the familiar occurrence of only one preferring the status quo.

The story occurs in the heavy humidity of summer, as days drag and lovers attempt to amuse one another. Though the heat is palpable, so too is the painful ache of a broken heart.
