It would almost be suspicious if odd things did not happen in the middle of the night in the desert.
Director Andre Johnson sends his threesome on a road trip from Los Angeles to Tijuana after the filmmaking group gets accepted to the latter city's cultural film fest. The lighthearted short pokes fun at itself as the car inevitably runs out of gas just in time for some stellar assistance.
Who hasn't thought that Highway 111 held its own mysteries and that traveling too far down it would lead to a misadventure of some kind? As the director character remains focused about making it to the festival, the starlet becomes annoyed at the prospect of being stuck with the two fellas and the backseat driver begins to see things.
Humor does not require many complicated special effects, and this short is a good example of simple filmmaking done for a laugh.
