Oscars blogorama: Red Carpet

3 pm, PT: Time to tune into E! and ABC. Not always the most intelligent banter (Ryan Seacreast is there, afterall), but this is the froufrou part that's really about the pretty dresses. Get your popcorn and bonbons and start a good groove into the couch!
*Be sure to refresh this page for updates

3:08 pm: James McAvoy...I am a sucker for a nice Scottish brogue. But in seriousness, I do look foward to his future films. Hopefully Starter for 10 will be good.

3:11 pm: Hollywood's coolest young couple, Maggie Gyllenhaal & Peter Sarsgaard. Looking pretty darn good for recently having a baby. So unamused by Seacreast's remarks, rightfully so.

3:18 pm: Michael Sheen from The Queen. What is Seacreast getting at with questions about HRM? Is she dirty? Good job, buddy.

3:21 pm: Oo, my favorite actor, Gael García Bernal. I absolutely adore him and everything he does. Looks like his Y tu mamá también buddy Diego Luna is joining him.

3:26 pm: Flipping to ABC, they've snagged Al & Tipper, but I missed the interview. Looks like the interviewees aren't quite as vapid...I could be wrong.

3:31 pm: Oops, I ran away for a moment to get some grub, but I did catch Sally Kirkland. Wow, she's definitely a change of pace.

3:38 pm: Why is Jennifer Lopez there?

3:45 pm: Rachel Weisz looks stunning, as usual.

3:49 pm: Jennifer Hudson, Bill Condon, Anika Noni Rose. Should be fun to see Hudson sing, but I'm still not the biggest fan of this film. Just too much jammed into a movie.

3:52 pm: Penélope Cruz looks gorgeous, as expected. The most flamboyant dress in a sea of subtlety. But so far the dresses are pretty classy rather than ostentatious.

3:55 pm: Cameron Diaz is nicely restrained. Usually her taste is pretty questionable.

4:01 pm: Alejandro González Iñárritu and fellow Mexican director Alfonso Cuarón. I hope the latter has something better up his sleeve than his recent endeavor.

4:04 pm: Jackie Earle Haley looks pretty nice and giddy, and in my opinion, should go home even giddier.

4:05 pm: Helen Mirren looks divine, of course.

4:09 pm: E! grabs Steve Carell, a little more boisterous than usual as he deals with Seacreast's inane babbling.

4:11 pm: Leonardo DiCaprio appears a bit confident.

4:12 pm: Djimon Hounsou is a handsome man, though I'm not sure about the trimmed lapel.

4:13 pm: Is it my imagination, or is Jodie Foster really working the carpet? I'm not sure what she's promoting.

4:15 pm: Jackie Earle Haley seems very sweet, I really hope he wins.

4:16 pm: All this talk about underwear reminds me of that fella who was molesting everyone asking them about their skivvies. Isaac Mizrahi? IHas he also been dumped onto the TV Guide channel with the Rivers women?

4:18 pm: Jessica Beil's dress is a bit too hot pink for my taste.

4:19 pm: Back to ABC. Why is Celine Dion there? I'm sure she's singing something, but I don't know why they always need to bring her back for this event.

4:22 pm: Forest Whitacker is pretty honest about his speech plans. But really, there should be little question of his winning.

4:26 pm: Kirsten Dunst looks pretty nice, her date seems a little flakey. Again, the dresses seem to be keeping in classic styles. Where are the outrageous fashions? I guess Sally Kirkland's on her own right now. Though I did catch a leopard print on Kelly Preston.

4:29 pm: Caught a peak of Ken Watanabe. I'm not afraid to say I have a bit of a crush on him.

4:30 pm: Cate Blanchet looks great. She's usually very fashion forward, but again, classic. Oo--I just saw the bottom of her dress, which is fantastic.

4:34 pm: Clint Eastwood is 77--damn he looks good. But then he's got a 42-year-old wife on his arm to keep him young.

4:39 pm: Gwyneth Paltrow looks much better than she did back in her pink princess days. But why is she there?

4:40 pm: Not so crazy about two light green dresses, on Kate Winslet and Beyonce. Not the color, but the dresses are unbecoming.

4:44 pm: Ryan Gosling making a stand with his pin for Amnesty International and child soldiers in Uganda. Good for him.

4:46 pm: Peter O'Toole looking very Hugh Heffner in his smoking jacket.

4:47 pm: Nicole Kidman looks like a poodle with that big bow around her neck.

4:47 pm: Meryl Streep is very dressed down in a black suit dress. You'd think that she'd push high fashion considering her role in The Devil Wears Prada.

4:50 pm: Adriana Barraza is breath of fresh air in bold red. Too many pastels.

4:51 pm: Reese Witherspoon does look great as she shows off her single assets.

4:53 pm: Martin Scorsese is in a hurry to pick up his award.

4:54 pm: Abigail Brelin looks like a sweet little princess, which is a nice change from trying to make kids older than they need to be.
