Palm Springs ShortFest: Ain't no party like a Toucan party

I finally made it to a fest party at Toucans. It’s so great to see the filmmakers chillin' out after the stress of watching their films with an audience, often for the first time -- and by this time most films had been screened.

I ran into a few folks I had met before, but I have to confess, without a notepad I am absolutely awful about remembering names. So today I fished through the biz cards I collected to recall all the cool folks I chatted up.

Daniel Cormack tolerated me and the girls for awhile. Hope you caught his premiere of “A Fitting Tribute” at the Showdown program today. Intriguing premise: a journalist on a “death-knock” gets more than he bargained for from his interviewee.

Eddie McGee, new-to-LA actor/producer from NYC, and his director Paul Hough assured me that their horror short, “The Angel,” is amazing. They were hanging out with another horror director, Paul Bickel, who screened “Hollow” (I’ll admit it, the picture on the fest website freaks me out). Great guys all around, so I only expect the best.

I rudely interrupted a conversation between director A.J. Eaton of “The Mix Up” and ambitious double-entry director Mal Woolford of two films that could not be any more different, “RedBlack” and “Fluffy.” Nice, nice fellas with a lot of enthusiasm for film.

The life of the party was Andy McDonnell, a wild Irish boy from Australia. He and very friendly director Stuart Vauvert were promoting their short, "Prada Handbag."

Be sure to get yourself to the award ceremony tonight to meet all these future big wigs.
