No big surprises, no big mistakes in the Golden Globes this year. What was everyone wearing at the non-show? Probably robes and slippers.
Best Drama: Atonement
A well done movie, but I still feel the race was between No Country for Old Men & There Will Be Blood.
Best Director: Julian Schnabel – The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
A tough call; a deserved winner.
Best Screenplay: Ethan & Joel Coen – No Country for Old Men
Let's hear it for the boys. It's hard not to write dialogue and to put so much power in the few words given.
Actress in Drama: Julie Christie – Away from Her
I fully acknowledge that it is a crime that I have not seen this film yet, as I have heard nothing but good things.
Supporting Actress: Cate Blanchett – I’m Not There
No surprise there. Cate continues to impress.
Actor in Drama: Daniel Day-Lewis – There Will Be Blood
I think there would have been a riot if he didn't receive this award. Phenomenal.
Supporting Actor: Javier Bardem – No Country for Old Men
Evil looks good on the men this year.
Best Foreign Language: The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
Beautifully creative; a deserving winner.
Best Comedy/Musical: Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
Alas, it is true. With all of the film fest goings ons, I have yet to view the Burton-Depp creation.
Actor in Comedy/Musical: Johnny Depp -- Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
See above.
Actress in Comedy/Musical: Marion Cotillard – La Vie En Rose
I will still argue that by definition, La Vie En Rose is not a musical. I will not argue that Cotillard is superb in the role.
Best Animated Film: Ratatouille
Best Original Score: Dario Marianelli – Atonement
Certainly haunting and memorable.
Best Original Song: "Guaranteed" by Eddie Vedder – Into the Wild
Vedder's been making his mark in film lately, and it's nice to have someone paying attention to the lyrics and not just putting out Disney schmaltz.
