Independent film sky: falling

At the LA Film Fest, Mark Gill -- former pres of Miramax and current CEO of The Film Department -- let loose on the state of affairs in the indie film world.

The bad news:
• After listing the recent litany of indie downsizing, the sky is in fact falling.
• The temptation to cross to the dark side of blockbusters exists, no matter how risky and soul depriving.
• More films are being made...more bad films.

The good news:
• Good films will always have an audience.
• Audience taste is improving.
• All will be well if we follow the advice of Schmuel "Samuel Goldwyn" Gelbfisz: "Make fewer better."
