This past weekend I checked out the band No More Kings. They’ve become famous for their web video, “Sweep the Leg (Johnny),” a reflection on Karate Kid punk Johnny’s current lot in life (using the original actors).
Which got me thinkin’ of songs related to film. Not soundtracks or songs that precede their film titles (“Pretty Woman,” “Pretty in Pink,” “Pink Floyd The Wall,” etc.), but songs written in response to films or the filmgoing experience. However, I’m running a blank.
Here’s what I’ve come up with off the top of my head (& others with a little help from my friends):
* “Alfred” – The Nields (about Hitch, of course)
* “End of the Movie” – Cake (because who leaves before the end of a movie, honestly)
* “6ix” – The Lemonheads (lyrics essentially consist of “Gwyneth’s head in a box,” a take on Se7en)
* "Hey a Movie!" – The Muppets (because they represent all good intentions in the movie making process)
* "Breakfast at Tiffany's" -- Deep Blue Something
* "Goodbye Norma Jean" -- Elton John
* "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" -- Elton John
* "Bette Davis Eyes" -- Kim Carnes
* "Grace Kelly" -- Mika
* "Clint Eastwood" -- Gorillaz
* "David Duchovny" -- Bree Sharp
* "That's Why God Made the Movies" -- Paul Simon
* "The Union Forever" -- The White Stripes (about Citizen Kane)
* "Motion Picture Soundtrack" -- Radiohead
Help jog my brain...I know there’re plenty out there!
